About FindMyHygiene
FindMyHygiene is an independent UK publisher of food hygiene ratings. We republish the Food Standards Agency’s public inspection data — cleanly, currently, and searchably — so that diners, journalists, and anyone else with an interest can find what they need without wrestling with the official lookup.
Why we built it
The Food Standards Agency does an excellent job inspecting and rating UK food businesses. Their public site, ratings.food.gov.uk, is the authoritative source and should be. But it’s hard to browse. You can’t search by cuisine. You can’t find the 5-star Italian restaurants in your postcode. You can’t see which venues have been downgraded this week. You can’t ask “which city has the best hygiene record in the country” and get an answer.
FindMyHygiene was built to answer those questions. We take the same public data, index it by the things people actually want to filter on — cuisine, city, neighbourhood, rating trend — and make it legible. Nothing more, nothing less.
Who we are
FindMyHygiene is a project of CK Tripathi, operated as an independent UK sole trader. We’re not a big company. We’re not funded by the Food Standards Agency or by any local authority. We’re not affiliated with any restaurant chain.
How we pay for it
Keeping 270,000 venues current isn’t free. We cover our costs three ways:
- Display advertising. We run Google AdSense on the site. We don’t accept ads that would compromise our editorial independence or the integrity of the data.
- Restaurant listings. Venue owners can claim their listing for £99 a year (price locked three years — see For proprietors). This lets them add photos, menu, booking link, and a public response to their rating. It does not let them change their rating.
- Data partnerships. If a research organisation, journalist, or insurer needs our enriched dataset, we licence it. Email us.
We’ve deliberately separated revenue from editorial. No advertiser, no paid venue, and no data customer can alter or hide a rating. The rating is the Agency’s, and it stays the Agency’s.
How the data flows
See our Method page for the full explanation of where ratings come from, how often we update, and what we do and don’t touch.
